Photographer's Note

Forgive me this rather hackneyed photo in a mirror, which has surely been done to death on TrekEarth. Let me explain how it happened.

I've long wanted to take a photo of Mission San Rafael Arcangel from A Street in downtown San Rafael. I'd even told a friend a while back that I intended to stand in the middle of the street for an unrestricted view of the bell tower. It didn't happen.

But today I was driving a friend around town to run a few errands, one of which happened to be on A Street. When we reached the area, which is notorious for limited parking, we found none. My friend suggested I park illegally in a red zone and wait in the car. I did as I was told!

I had my camera with me, expecting I'd wander around a bit as my friend shopped, but it was not to be. I opened the driver's window of the car, thinking perhaps I'd get a photo of pedestrians, or cars driving by. Just then my eye fell on the side mirror and I saw this scene. Eureka! I knew I had to take this shot. In fact, I took about a dozen.

So forgive me for using this approach. I have to admit, however, that I like the way the image came out. This is Mission San Rafael Arcangel in downtown San Rafael on a sunny afternoon in California. Hope you enjoy the view.
