New Cape Henry Light, a photo from Virginia, Sud

Photographer's Note

Here is a view of the New Cape Henry Light taken from the small hill at the base of the Old Cape Henry Light in the previous posting. This light is 157 ft (48m) tall and you can see that construction techniques changed in the intervening 80 years. Although the new light is about 100 yards (meters) from the old one, replacement was deemed necessary because of fears of stability of the foundation of the old one.

Hello Robert,

You've been sharing with us a compelling series of photos of light houses on the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Although I've visited Virginia Beach, I've missed this unusual beauty. What I find fascinating are the spiral staircases inside the light houses. Perhaps you have some images of those as well. Your note is excellent.
