Photographer's Note
In the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea there is a very large apartment complex called London Terrace. It is actually fourteen buildings that were at one time interconnected. It was completed in 1930, and at the time was the largest apartment complex in the world.
London Terrace has approximately 1,670 units, which means it has thousands of residents. It occupies a complete city block between West 23rd Street and West 24th Street, and Ninth and Tenth Avenues.
This complex was built with top amenities for the time: an Olympic size swimming pool, a health club, roof deck, a block-long private inner garden, and more.
When I first saw London Terrace I was amazed by its scale; it seems to go on forever. Here is just one small portion of this interesting complex. In the workshop photo is a broader view. I would have liked to capture the entire block, but from my vantage point I could not get any higher or move any further back.

Hi Brenda,
a very good description of this shot. This apartment complex is incredible, and the number of bricks are endless! Your vantage point was sufficient in this shot, the important thing was to get an idea of the size of the complex in my opinion. I also like the fact that you have included the street life with yellow cabs and people. Interesting shot!
Have a nice evening.

Great NYC shot, Brenda - the brick rows and the line of yellow cabs. Nice perspective here - where were you that you were able to get this nice downward angle? Great light and detail on the bricks, by the way.

Hi Brenda!
Very interesting and attractive NYC's architecture picture! So many styles and you've found one of them that ended up so eye-catching in this special composition, together with the elements of the street (people, cars, traffic signs etc.)!
I really enjoyed it!
TFS - congrats,

Hello Brenda,
This is a truly amazing view. The strong impact of this picture is not only due to the hugeness of the building block but also the tight cropping that excludes the sky. The group of yellow cabs match the red bricks perfectly and the short diagonal of trees also add a fine element to the composition.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Brenda,
Incredible building indeed ! Typical of New York I would say, with its variety of imposing, original architecture ! Your POV is very well chosen, and makes it look formidable as an endless brick row as you say ! I recognize all the AC boxes on a lot of the windows. That also, I find typical of New York, along with the yellow taxis down in the street.
Well, I expect it's more a sight of desolation today.
We are all very sorry for what is happening to your city.
I read in the forums that you have been OK in Coney Island. I am glad to hear about that.
Good luck for the coming days, where life certainly won't be easy with the damaged facilities.
Sincerest regards.
Marie-Louise.

Hello Brenda,
The yellow cabs, the endless rows of bricks and windows — all distinctive New York. In addition, it was a master stroke to show the "10th Avenue" street sign in a corner of the frame. As in many of your shots of New York, you also capture a serenity that is uncharacteristic New York.
Have a good week,
Bulent

Hello Brenda,
Thanks for your comment on my picture of the Italian Alps.
Your collection of pictures about New York is very good. This one, a scene I only know from American films and television series, is one of my favorites,

Hello, Brenda...
My mother grew up in NYC, and when she was alive, and I was young, we would go there every few years to visit relatives. My impression of the city when I was a child was, "This city goes on forever".
Your photo illustrates that feeling very well; the city extends as far as you can see, both horizontally and vertically.
Very well done, Thanks for sharing

Hi Brenda,
Both great photos, I actually enjoy the WS a bit more as it shows the height of these buildings. This cropped version however, is also very strong in its composition. It creates a nice pattern and showcases the uniformity of this architectural style. It also gives good depth as the converging perspective stretches from left to right. I like that you've included a portion of the cross street to add some interest towards the opposing direction. Nice presentation of this neighborhood.

Jason

What a superb title you have given to this image. The feeling is awesome, Brenda. There a re a number of elements here, where the eye can stroll from one point to another, be it cars, the pedestrians, the number of window air conditioners......
A huge coverage from a higher pedestal.
Cheers,

I really like the weight the buildings have in this shot. The massive monotony of the wall of bricks pressing down on the concrete and asphalt below is good. The thin trees and tiny people convey a sense of scale, an inhuman scale, in a world of asphalt, concrete and bricks. Everything living seems oppressed by the feeling of an intense heat and light. It's a nice capture of the feeling of this massive block.
