Photographer's Note

Hi friends!
I didn't have much time for PP today, so here's another shot from "Girl in A Coma" at Pachanga Fest 2012 (please see yesterday's foto and comment for a fuller explanation). This one is full frame (notice the lens limits at the corners) and got only slight color correction, brightness, contrast, and sharpening adjustments.
As I mentioned yesterday, concert photography presents many challenges, and helpful camera functions can sometimes work against you. Here, my autofocus has locked on to the leopard print on the microphone (nice and crisp) while Nina's face is at the back end of the DOF, or just beyond it! I hope her emotion saves the shot. She is a captivating performer -- and for fotos, it is all about her eyes (see yesterday's shot) or her mouth.
In defense of the soft focus, I have to add -- Nina has SUCH a powerful voice that she is able to put the distance you see here between herself and the mic when she is belting it out. As I readied this shot, she was at the mic and in focus, but then she went to her big voice and pulled back from the mic and out of the DOF; I squeezed the shutter anyway!
