Photographer's Note

"I was thinking that night about Elvis
The day that he died
Just a country boy that combed his hair
And put on the shirt that his mother made
And went on the air
And he shook it like a chorus girl
And he shook it like a Harlem queen
He shook it like a midnight rambler, baby
Like you never seen"

ELVIS PRESLEY is one the iconic figures of 20th century culture. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on 8 January 1935 and made it big time first in Memphis, then in Nashville, then back in Memphis and all over the wide world really (though he hardly ever performed out of the good ol' US of A).

THIS PICTURE shows a shadow on the wall of the front porch of the house Elvis was born in. It's a really small wooden house in Tupelo. These days it is located in a Presley park and you can visit it, but it's really small.

I visited the location twice, on both occasions I arrived after closing hours and found the place deserted but most, most atmospheric. It's a magical place to relax, just sit in Elvis' swing, sip a drink and watch the sun set on another day on planet earth.

I hope I didn't just spoil the tranquility of this place by posting this note.

The WORKSHOP shows a wider view of the front porch.
