Photographer's Note

2020-'21 academic year started on August 24 at Geneva College. This semester, we started a week earlier than usual, we are eliminating all breaks and adding two Saturdays to make up for a missing Thursday and a missing Friday and plan to send the students home on November 25 just in time for Thanksgiving. They will not be coming back from Thanksgiving. Finals will be held online after Thanksgiving. Beaver County (where Geneva is located) got off the Governor's COVID watch list on Aug. 17. The idea is to keep students on campus and not to let them go away to "red" states and bring back the virus. We are going to have a longer-than usual Christmas break and hope to be back for the Spring semester at our usual starting time. I assume they are hoping life will get back to normal by next semester.

A lot is different this semester, but I will tell more in my future posts. This is a scene from the Faculty Senate meeting that took place before the beginning of the semester. The most important business we conducted was to change the bylaws to allow for on-line meetings. The football stadium was the only place big enough to hold all the faculty with social distancing, and the weather was perfect for it. Now that we changed our bylaws, we can meet online for the rest of the year.
