Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I hope your Sunday morning is better than here, in the U.K. The wind is howling and the rain lashing down! A perfect day for staying indoors and sharing photos on TE!
I think this will be my last look at New York for a while.
Please open in New Tab for a clearer photograph.
This view of the long pier across the Hudson River was taken from West Street, not too far away from the place where I took a photograph, posted earlier, of the sunken posts. Its long lines and repeating lampposts drew my attention.
In the background is Jersey City.
I remember this day well. The weather was so hot that water stations had been erected around the city! (What is it with me and weather ... well I am English!) 😊
Have a good day and keep safe, Bev :-)

Hi Bev,
I am quite weather sensitive so it may be my favourite subject. You may ask: what am I doing in the UK? I suppose since this seems to be one of the most popular subjects for discussion here, I have found people to talk to...
I didn't venture that far in NYC. I see this place for the first time. You made a great use of the repeated motif of the lamppost. The line of the bridge leads the eye to the buildings across the water.
Yes thank goodness we have the archives we can reach into.
Very well done,
M

Hello Bev,
It's a very nice long view underscored be the slightly curving line of the lampposts and ending in the distant tall buildings of Jersey City. It looks like a beautiful day but it was clearly rather too hot, which shouldn't be a surprise for New York in July. I am mainly intrigued by the rather odd nearest building. I travelled with the Google car across the river, right up to it, but I found it surrounded by a high fence and red signs of 'No trespassing'. Very secretive. Now I get even more curious, and not just about the style.
Have a nice Sunday by the computer.

Hi Bev,do not despair, even here the weather has been gray for a week and we are waiting for the rain that will arrive from England this evening ... ehehe ... sad days in this new lockdown, but today I am determined to escape to go to my brother, 500 meters of fear ... hehe ... the perspective of your photo is amazing, with a depth and a truly excellent 3D effect. We move forward hoping for better times.Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

We also have a real winter day here in Israel, thunders were heard all night, Beverley.
A fine picture space allocation, depth and a clear view achieved on this pier, a place I do not remember visiting in NY.
Wish you will enjoy the indoor's sunday, despite the howling winds,
Ike

Hello Bev,
The weather in Flemish Belgium are the same if in England, 25mm rain today, only a bike trip during the morning, wit a little bit rain.
You chose a nice angle oblique on the bridge.
The buildings are a nice addition
Nice sharp and clear presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,
John.

Hello Beverley, you obviously had much more time than us for exploring New York, so we didn't see a view like this.
Excellent composition with the pier beginning in the corner of the frame.
It's always interesting to see how different people 'see' a place, thank you for the pictures that you have shared from the Big Apple.
Kind regards, Jean.

Good afternoon Beverley.
You are right, here today’s weather condition looks also not inviting for a walk or jog, while Sunday will alway be a special “holy” day for me, no matter what...
I do like your presentation showing the long NY pier at the Hudson River, the NJ downtown in the background gives an amazing segment to the whole scene. Hot condition then, cool and rainy today, what more to complain? Enjoy your day!!!

Hi Bev,
The length of the pier is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the pier. The light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Beverley,
A great view along the long pier towards one of the ventilation towers of the Holland Tunnel, certainly one of the iconic buildings along the Hudson. The tower of Jersey City make a great addition on the left hand side also.

Hello Bev, We have quite nice weather, warm and without the rain, so I can make some order in my garden- yesterday I packed the fallen leaves. The situation with COVID is tragic in Poland, I stay at home, looking at my rich archives nad wondering what I could choose to show.
I do not remember this place. Awesome depth.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Bev
It is now Monday afternoon here and the wind is howling too but it is a hot wind.
I didn't get to see this corner of NY. A great photo of the curving bridge, especially in the perfect detail of the large version.
cheers

Bonjour, chère Bev,
Un très bon choix de cadrage pour donner à la composition un bel effet de perspective avec ce pont qui va rejoindre des immeubles de grande hauteur, le tout sous un ciel bleu parsemé de cirrus.
Amitiés.

Hello Bev
The long pier provides good lead in lines towards the red brick H shaped building on the distant horizon. Good sharpness and well framed and composed. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
I haven't been to the exact same place in NYC. But I knew where you took the picture.
I read Lars' commentary and now also know what the building is for.
Since the opposite side is New Jersey and this side New York, we can wonder in what state the building is located. Maybe not very important in the US since probably no one will live there and if so, they live in a blue state :)
The bridge leads us well to the view of Jersey City's skyline.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev.
An excellent composition, with this long walkway that gives a great perspective to the image, beautiful the effect of the streetlights and in the distance the tall buildings of Jersey.
Very nice color that enhances the image.
Superb brightness and sharpness management to enjoy the details.
Well seen and done. I like.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Bev,
This low-slung pier is fairly plain in appearance, but the repetition of structures on it gives the photo its interest. A good sense of depth and good exposure.

Hi Bev
to answer your question...no...our hotel wasn't close to the main sites in Rome...well, it's walking distance but it's a good 20-30 min walk. It's not like it was just out the front door and take the first left, it was a substantial walk. I take my night/blue hour photography seriously, so lugging around my tripod isn't even a question - its a given, I just deal with it. I make sacrifices of what ELSE do I not bring. The odd time when I don't bring the tripod, I always regret it. As for your shot here, I chose it because I don't recognize the view. Just goes to show there are so many great Manhattan/NY places to take photos. what is that large tall structure? Looks so out of place, its massive. cool shot, nice setup composition wise with the depth, and the empty space on the lower left. In the end it's all balanced out. where are all the people? haha
cheers
Craig
