Photographer's Note
I think I'm near Winnemucca, but it's hard to be sure. The long stretches of high desert along Interstate 80 are perhaps legendary for their plainness, but I found them lovely and dramatic. Of course, I was seeing them through the eyes of a photographer!
PP: separated sky and ground on different layers and converted each to b/w using the Channel Mixer with low blues and high reds. Cleaned the sky up a bit with very slight motion blur, then used my texturizer approach to the ground by using the watercolor filter at 15% and the crosshatch filter at 15%. This helps preserve and interpolate texture so none is lost.
I hope you enjoy Nevada when you go!

Hi David. Once again your b/w work just blows me away. I like the textures on the ground and the blur of the clouds. I wouldn't change a thing with the post-processing. BTW I'm going to re-post my latest tomorrow. tfs David!

Absolutely no idea where you are in Nevada, David, but wherever it is, I like it. Excellent tonal range, simple and elegant composition, good light. Lovely work.

Very dramatic, David, you're definitely a PS expert. I have to learn about the various filters. I do think that blurring the sky gives the image an artificial look, like it's a model of the ground with a "sky" backdrop. The "earth" portion is spectacular, though, looks like Ansel Adams! Regards, Ken.

This desolated landscape is impressive for itself (particularly with your choice of composition), and you made a great image of it with your excellent work of PP.
Congratulations !

Hi David,
The magic lightmood of this picture reminds me of Anselm Adams work.Good pp-work with a nice motion blur effect in the sky.Beautiful B/W with a wide tonal range and astonishing clarity.

Wonderful image David. You started with a good composition and your PP work is well described. I've not explored the use of channels yet; it seems to get closer to film B&W than desaturating. How does it compare to film when printed? (My husband used to develop and print B&W and I can't convince him about digital.)

Impressive work here! I was wondering how that picture was taken... and then I read your note! To play with a picture and to give it a life like this, it is not within my grasp for the time being, so I am impressed! It is another beautiful photo of your country. The black & white is a good choice. And the blurring effect give a special feeling. Well done!

Hi David,
The use your own words, this is really lovely and dramatic! The use of proportion here is not typical and, I find, gives strenght to the image. Intersting note about the post-processing, I have never tried thar kind of work, so you have made me curious to try it out. Of course I would need an image of this quality to start with ;-)
I do enjoy your work,
Have a good weekend.

Hi David. Well this one is nothing but stunning in terms of the contrasts and tonal range to be found in the b&w. Also a very nice disposition of the light and a good framing with the low-placed horizon line. I like the blur effect on the sky, I have also seen this on the photo you are using for your header logo on your smugmug site.

Wow! Geting back here and finding such an image from you, is truly a very nice reward DAvid! :) How have you been??
The BW really takes it to a new dimension and the grey degrees on sky and mountains makes the rest here. What a magical one man!! In which planet did you take it?? ;)

Hi David,
this PP-ing job made it look as if you had an exposition of at least 30 seconds while clouds were moving on a windy day.
Thought it was Moon at first but yep, Nevada, of course!
I want to try this technique one day... being too lazy so far, though!

Very nice shot.
The full grey scale is used perfectly to render hill textures and sky. The contrast is nicely adjusted.
It looks like a Ansel Adams picture.
Congratulations !

Hello David,
A fine option and low angle that you did very well. A simple but effective result capture. Nostalgic or not is a moment and your great way of view nature and things so well.
Great work, simple and naked nature so well composed.
Best to you and my friendly sharing to your excelent and creative work.

I missed so many of your beautiful recent photos, David, but unfortunately I cannot comment them all. But I think that I like this one very much thanks to the nlurry emptyness of the sky, and they way it contrast the sharpness of the mountains. Super PP, and a very very good result.
