Photographer's Note

On one of my trips to the Sierras in California I planned to arrive where I took this shot for sunrise and was rewared for it.
Mt. Shasta is 14,162' and has 4 Andesite eruptive domes that have erupted every 800 years, the last being approx. in 1786.
There are many cinder cones throughout the region of Mt. Shasta, the closest for viewing is along I-5 Freeway and is called Black Butte. I have been fascinated since my childhood with this cinder cone as my family drove by it to Portland Oregon from where we lived in the Bay Area in California.
