Photographer's Note

This is my homage to Robert Frank (translation - shameless rip-off) The photo was shot in Trenton, New Jersey -- a typical NJ city with loads of abandoned industrial buildings and warehouses, and a generally very run-down appearance. The downtown area is quite rough, although not as bad as say, Camden, NJ. This was shot with the Holga, which for those who don't know, is a $20 plastic camera that requires black electrical tape to patch up light leaks. The light fall off and blurred edges are characteristic, although this effect was enhanced in the darkroom. The Holga only has aperture settings of f/8 and f/11 with a shutter of 1/100. Because the film tension is so loose, you have to double over the lid of your film box and shove it under the reel to maintain enough tension to prevent light leaks from loose film. Then you have to tape up the seals on the outside when it is loaded because the clasps aren't very reliable. It's a real pain, to be honest, but I like the effect.
