Mission San Juan Capistrano

This mission has a fabulous courtyard with a very photogenic fountain. In this case I used that fountain to a capture a reflection of one of the mission buildings. The fountain is also a koi pond and you might be able to make out some of the fish to the top.

For post-processing I used NeatImage to clean up the water, croppped, and sharpened.

Here's some history:

Mission San Juan Capistrano is the seventh Californian mission and was founded November 1, 1776
on the Feast of All Saints by Fr. Junipero Serra. An initial attempt to establish the mission on October 30, 1775 by Fr. Fermin Lasuen failed because of Indian unrest at Mission San Diego.

The mission once had a Great Stone Church but it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1812.

Mission San Juan Capistrano is also remembered in Leon Rene’s famous song "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano" which commemorates the return of these little birds back to the area every spring supposedly on March 19th.
