Photographer's Note

In this photo, an air tanker has just dropped a load of borate; there are at least two more planes in the picture. I'll post a pano version so you can find them.

My original intent was to post this photo to show how much night emphasizes fire; although the fire was also burning more strongly in the previous photo. It is essentially the same POV and focal length (70 mm) as 'Fires love Santa Anas.' This was taken from my folks front porch. The Santa Ana winds often blow most strongly at night. When they've been blowing for days at a time, it leaves my folks exhausted from lack of sleep. This fire and the one that occurred a couple of days ago burned on the West side of the valley. The Santa Ana winds blow from the east. In 'Fires love..' you can see the wind is blowing from the opposite direction. In this photo the prevailing onshore flow is present and the fire was soon under control.
