Photographer's Note
A view of The Power Plant from Lake Powell in Arizona.. I don't know much about this power plant except that it looks interesting in the middle of the desert mountain and buttes next to Glen Canyon in Page Arizona.
Now before anyone starts to to talk about the envoirment.. There is actually the town of page that needs the engergy from this plant.
I took this photo far away from the other side of lake Powell using a 80 mm Mamiya Lens. I wanted to have a dark dramatic sky and still show the smoke stacks billowing dark smoke, but I also wanted the mountains in the background to be lighter giving the landscape some depth. I scouted the area the night before and I woke up the next day before sunrise. I waited and waited for the clouds to pass in front of the sun just right. You can see the huge storm cloud on the upper third of the frame that was approaching fast.
I used a red filter to make the clouds darker and developed the film in Ilford ID-11 at 1 part stock and 3 water to get more tones out of it.

What a great picture, I don't understand why it didn't attract more attention. Though i would prefer it to be slighltly sharper, i find this subject amazing. a factory in the desert, like an urban element in the nature. beautiful contrast, and strange atmosphere.
black and white is an excellent choice, and i like the grainy effect in the sky.
very well done.

This could be the epic shot beginning from a movie by John Ford. Pity that John Wayne doesn´t appear and that smoke doesn´t emanate from an old steamming train, but the chimneys from an industry plant. Anyway all the feelings are acording with your wishes of create a dramatic atmosphere.
A great one
Congratulations: Javier
