Photographer's Note

I dragged my butt out of bed at 3:30 in the morning to get this shot. I snuck into the park about an hour before it opened and camped out at this gap know as the Gateway. I took a fair number of shots, but this one was the most colorful. It was taken about 20 minutes before sunrise. It was early enough that the light from the sun was not directly touching the mountains but was high enough to touch the highest clouds with pinks and red. Because of the time of the year, not only was the moon coming between these two rock formations, but it also sets at approximately the same time that the sun peaks over the horizen.
