Photographer's Note
The shearing shed at Yanga Station (now a national park) would have had at least 13 shearers working at once (possibly more). You can work that out by counting the number of strips of light coming in from the left. Those strips of light are from shutes down which a sheep was sent after shearing. They arrived through the doors on the right.
This shed was from the mechanical era. There is a drive shaft running behind the boards on the upper left.
Now the telephone in the title to this photo: Australia's first telephone connected this shed to the homestead which was several kilometres away. Even more special is that the installation was carried out by James Cromyn under directions forwarded from England by his uncle Alexander Graham Bell, an early developer of the telephone.
Much better detail in the large view.

Hello Ian, Very interesting note. How strange that in this shed were the beginnings of the telephones in Australia. I wonder what the information was sent. Incredible what the progress was made in this area during the last thirty years. I remember well how it was in nineties. Fantastic industrial picture. I like the row of these wheels and lines. Excellent post.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Ian,
We are not shown that telephone, but we see a lot of other interesting equipment from the shearing shed, nice strips of light and a fine sign advertising the Wolseley machines, obviously approved by the sheep themselves. The wooden poles create fine depth.
Regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,the place isn't a great show but it's very interesting for the communication history of Australia. The first phone was there,so it remains a very important place. I like the lines of shadows in the ground too,to gives something of nice to the composition. Have a nice SUnday and thanks,Luciano

Wow, Ian, this is almost tangible history!
There are no figures but there is enough information from your notes to understand what this shed was all about!. The light and shadow contrasts are very effective and I love the composition, using the converging lines so effectively and creating a fine sense of perspective.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
