Photographer's Note
When you drive across the south of New South Wales your are always near the Murrumbidgee River but rarely see it despite crossing it at least twice.
One spot where you can wander beside the river is in Yanga NP near the western town of Balranald. The park is also worthwhile visiting for the old shearing shed and homestead.
At this spot on the river, well over 600 km from the sea, river boats used to load up with wool from the nearby shearing shed for the long trip out. Sometimes river boats were trapped for a year or 2 waiting for the water levels to rise enough. The arrival of the railway early in the 20th century ended the river boat trade.
