Photographer's Note

Best opened in a new tab for better detail.

Oldbury Farm is one of the oldest farms (and still working) in our district having been started in around 1820 by one James Atkinson. He had been born in Oldbury, Kent (England) hence the name. The house was built in 1828 and is now on the NSW state heritage list. The photo was taken a few weeks ago in late autumn.

In these days of Black Lives Matter and discussion about slavery when our Prime Minister claimed that there had been no slavery in Australia Atkinson, along with most early land owners, was allocated a large team of "convicts" transported for mostly minor crimes from England, Scotland and Ireland. They were slaves working long hours with no pay.
