Série sobre a minha visita a VITÓRIA - A Capital do Estado do ESPÍRITO SANTO - um dos 04 estados da Região SUDESTE do BRASIL - de 12 a 14 de Agosto de 2011 - Nº 005 !

Series on my visit to VITÓRIA - The Capital City of the State of ESPÍRITO SANTO - one of the four states in the SOUTHEASTERN Region of BRAZIL (SÃO PAULO, MINAS GERAIS, RIO DE JANEIRO and ESPÍRITO SANTO) - from August 12th to 14th, 2011 - #005 !

Agora olhando na direção da cidade de VILA VELHA, uma cena mais típica de cidade (média - grande) litorânea no Brasil, repleta de prédios à beira mar!

Now looking towards the city of VILA VELHA (OLD VILLAGE), a more typical scene of a (medium - big) coastal city in Brasil, full of buildings by the sea!

Flying for the first time AZUL (LINHAS AÉREAS)/AZUL AIRLINES, one of the newest brazilian air companies, founded by a brazilian-american (the same owner of JETBLUE in the USA) and that's grown a lot lately, having its headquarters in CAMPINAS/SP, using brazilian made airplanes (EMBRAER models)!

It was only three days (or around 2 days and a half), but it was enough to see some of that city and its surroundings!

This picture was taken from the top of a hill, where the CONVENTO DA PENHA/PENHA CONVENT is located! It's not in VITÓRIA, but in the neighbor city of VILA VELHA!

Here, another view of the entrance of VITÓRIA's BAY (The city is located in an island by the sea)!

The State of ESPÍRITO SANTO used to be one of the poorest states in BRAZIL! Although full of natural beauties by the sea and up in the mountains and having a rich soil, good weather and excellent harbors, it had its people living in poverty and a privileged minority extremely wealthy! Until recently, lots of corruption was also present with many scandals! Still, not the richest one or corruption-free, but it's notably getting better, as the whole Country is!

VITÓRIA, always located in a magnificent natural spot (sea, bays, canals, beaches, hills and mountains), was pretty poor, dirty and ugly!
In this picture, one can notice all the houses and buildings up on the hills and by the water that are from those "old" times! Today, they are sort of a "romantic" remembrance of it all!

Nowadays, the city is well organised, clean and it seems to be bursting with progress and development!

Again and still, in the suburbs and surrounding poorer areas and cities, lots of violence that sometimes reaches the other parts of the city! Fortunately, I didn't see any of that violence and was very happy to visit the place! Another one I always wanted to be at!
