A MODERN HEAVEN, a photo from Parana, Sud

Photographer's Note

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes in Apucarana city, built in the 1950's, is the most important Catholic temple in my micro-region of Ivaí Valley. While the building has traditional shapes the interior got a modernist series of murals. Here the area behind the main altar got a traditional view of the Heaven during the doomsday. I liked the colors, but not the way personages are painted, as amateur artwork.

A Catedral de NS de Lourdes de Apucarana, erguida nos anos 1950, é o mais importante templo Católico da microrregião do Vale do Ivaí. Enquanto a igreja tem aspecto mais tradicional o interior ganhou murais coloridos e modernistas que mostram a cena do Juízo Final. Gosto do efeito das cores, mas não da maneira como os personagens estão pintados, de aspecto amador.

Hello Jorge,
It's an original painting and I don't agree that it's so badly done. I quite like the simplified modernist figures. Their style and colours could brighten the most boring sermon.

Hi Jorge,
I agree you in regard to the style.
I actually have a friend of mine who made a big career as an artist and she makes a lot of paintings in this style.
I am a bit surprised because I find this type of art very similar to what children would do, so I am surprised someone wants to pay for it.
Nevertheless it is an interesting reportage,
