Photographer's Note
This is the “Museu Histórico de Witmarsum” (Witmarsum’s Historic Museum), placed in the “Colônia Witmarsum” (Witmarsum Colony), Paraná State, southern Brazil.
Situated in the municipality of Palmeira, the Witmarsum Colony was established in 1951 by the immigrant menonites that came from the city of Witmarsum, Santa Catarina state.
These menonites belongs to the group of German-Russians, originally from Friesland, actually in the North of Holland and Germany. Through the Prussia, they had immigrated to Russia around XVIII century, where from they had escaped in 1929, when the communism was established. In 1930 they came to Brazil, where, after some time in Santa Catarina, they had established in 1951 the Witmarsum Colony of Paraná. The North American menonites gave them a financing, and with this help they bought the “Fazenda Cancela” (Cancela’s Farm) in july 7th, 1951.
The area’s size is about 7800 hectares where there are around 1500 inhabitants. There are five settling nucleus, without denominations and disposed around the administrative, commercial and social center. The colony was organized as a communitarian system, but actually there are private properties with average 50 hectares each.
Its economy is based on agronomy, soybean, corn, cattle raising, chicken, pork and, with emphasis, dairy.
The museum was founded in 1989, September 15th, in the old house of the farm. It’s a wooden house, typical of the german-menonite colonization, inventoried and protected by the law as a Historic Patrimony. Inside we can see old furnishings and lots of old objects and equipments used by that immigrants.
This is a side view of the musem.
Regards,
Zeca

I noticed the dramatic lighting in the thumbnail. But it's really better on the full size image. It is almost a quiet, subtle scene, but then there's the surprising spalsh of bright yellow and sunlight. Well seen and recorded.

Hello Zeca. The sky look great here. It has a nice clean blue colour. Good contrast of shadows and light and the house is quite a sight in this setting. I imagine the interior of the house is very interesting. Good historical image. Cheers :-)

I like very much the light/shade contrast over the wooden museum and the park with its green vegetation. Nice color contrast as well and good inclusion of the foliage on the left side.
Cheers

Boas cores e nitidez.

Maria do Carmo

It's a very interesting story about that colony and the strongly contrasted shot is a good illustration of the fate of those people.
