Photographer's Note

This is a photo of the tower behind to Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center. This center together with the back tower were built between 1971 and 1972 to host the Third World Conference on Trade and Development of the United Nations, UNCTAD III, held between April and May 1972.

However, after the 1973 coup d'état, both buildings were occupied by the military as the headquarters of their operations and they changed their name to the Diego Portales Building. After the return to democracy, the main building could be opened to the public for conferences and events, but this did not include the Villavicencio street tower because it was handed over to the Ministry of Defense.
