Photographer's Note

The Place
Downtown Santiago, just outside of a busy subway station, an old man is feeding pigeons. This is another of my experiments with street photography. (Actually, I only have two)

Many men, after retirement, gather everyday in public squares with old friends to chat, play chess, read newspaper, discuss about how old times were better, or just see the time pass by.
I remember when I was kid, seeing my grandfathers always wearing formal suit. I wondered why they wear them if they are not working. They even did on weekends.
While walking in downtown, I saw this old man feeding the pigeons. Two thoughts came to me: 1) has he lost all his friends and his only companion are those birds? or this was just his daily routine before meeting his buddies at the Plaza de Armas?;
2) … and also how much I miss my grandparents.

I hope grandparents (I mean old people, you could be granny at 40) around the world are loved until the end, no matter how sick and annoying they could become. The worst fear for a human is to die alone.

- Scanned film
- grayscale, tritone. For this tritone I used black, Pantone 118 C, and Focoltone 5011.
Please see the difference between a simple grayscale modification in PS versus a tritone mode. Tritone is not the same as sepia.
- rotate to correct tilt
- re-sized, sharpness, framed
