Photographer's Note
Río de la Plata estuary is some 270 km (170 miles) long and between Argentina and Uruguay is cca 190 km (120 miles) wide at its mouth on the Atlantic Ocean and decreases to cca 30 km (20 miles) near its head. (Different sources state different distances and I opeted for the smallest numbers!) Most people have troubles imagining that and this tile presentation which I found in one of the streets in Colonia del Sacramento, helps visualising the numbers.
Estuary was discovered in 1516 by Juan Díaz de Solís and the first settlement on its banks was made at Buenos Aires by Pedro de Mendoza, the Spanish conquistador in 1536.

nice view of these tiles showing the map of the estuary. the waters of rain over the roof of my home finds the sea here, after many kilometers. When I visited montevideo first time the waters were blue and I thought there was more salted water in that place, anyway in my second trip to that town I found lots of muddy waters there, showing me that the power of the river reaches that point too, anyway in Punta del este it is only a memory of this.
