The first church of Belém was constructed provisorily inside of the Fort of the Presépio and already Lady of the Favours was dedicated Ours. Few years later she was transferred to the current Plaza of If, in a precarious construction. In the following century, in 1719, the Diocese of the Maranhão is desmembrada the order of D.V João and Belém starts to host the just-servant Diocese of Pará, earning right the honors of If Episcopal its first church. After some years without it was submitted the serious measures of conservation, what it spoiled sufficiently some of its structural and artistic aspects, the Cathedral Metropolitan of Belém was, at last, submitted the restoration, in 2005, being reopened to the public in the day 1º of September of 2009.
