Sunny afternoon at Bryggen, a photo from Hordaland, Sud

Photographer's Note

Photo captured at the inner parts of Bryggen a sunny afternoon in May. A little break from the rain and cold tempreatures that have been dominating so far this spring. Until 1901 there was wooden houses of the same kind as the northern part of Bryggen also here. In 1901 these was replaced by more modern brick houses as you can see here, designed in a kind of Bryggen style by the architect Jens Zetlitz Kielland. Bergen City Hall was located in this area until 1561.

Nice golden tone prevailed over town, Erling, and well takennthis moment, a light that came out of the storm-clouds.
The lady in black who was jogging gave a nice sense of motion to the scene.

Hello Erling,

The distortion gives the photograph a sense of movement, like a pop-up book. (I hope you can understand that, let me explain, just in case! Pop-up books have pages which lie flat when the book is closed but stand up when the book is opened.)
The light is amazing!
In places it is gilding the building whilst in others, it appears like thunder!
I do like how the jogger makes a good, f/g focal point and a guide into the scene.

Superb light which goes through the black clouds as a big spot to illuminate in orange the corner of the house.
How did you manage not to have your shadow? Crouching?

My favorite urban environment in Norway: Bergen!!!! I just loved it! I wish I could go back there some other day!

Here the wide angle really shows off its potential.
I like how the scene is divided into two areas, in a V shape - kind of guiding our eyes down each lane.

very cool atmospheric conditions for the scene too.
and of course the pretty lady always helps :)

detta är en väldigt fin del av Bergen som jag har besökt några gånger. Jag är speciellt imponerad av de vackra husen som har bevarats och inte fallit offer för moderna trista hus. Du har skapat ett fint djup i bilden från din placering. Dessutom så är bilden mycket skarp och klar så att man kan se alla fina detaljer på hus fasaderna. Ljuset är magiskt!
