Construite sur le lieu même de l'assassinat du tsar Alexandre II en 1881.

Hello Roland,
We can see here that you didn't have awful weather for the whole of your visit to Saint Petersburg, thank goodness. Spectacular vista down the river with the magnificent church making a wonderful focal point. Ideally exposed with superb colours and clarity. The people thronging the riverside do much to enliven the scene.

this picture is very attractive and interesting, the quality you achieved, despite the challenges imposed by the setting and the lighting contrast, is superb. I love the magnetic effect of the perspectives and the strong, contrasting colours, the reflection is so lovely. Hello Roland, not a view that I have seen before, indeed I never knew that Saint-Petersburg had a canal such as this!
Excellent viewpoint with the church as the perfect focal point.
The blue water and the reflections are eye catching.
It is good to see the people enjoying the sunshine, and they add life to your scene.

Bonjour Roland,

An interesting note and a lovely photograph to accompany it!

Taken, I presume, from a bridge, the lines of the canal and its banks immediately draw the eye into this picture to where the magnificent golden spires of the church are seen portrayed against a glorious sky. The light is beautiful, lighting up the church and the buildings on the right while those on the left retain a lovely richness of colour due to their slight shade. The reflections on the canal are lovely and the crowds of people lining either side add to the appeal as well as giving a fine sense of scale.

Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness. And a fine note too.

Nice synmetry appraoch! White in right side and ornage in left side is sotatsy. Russian churuch in the center is quite landmark at all.

Une superbe perspective avec ce canal qui débouche sur cette originale architecture, belle luminosité, ceci m'évoque des souvenirs de ce lieu mais avec des conditions différentes et un canal glacé, c'était en hiver. Une ville que j'avais apprécié autant en été que dans une version hivernale.

Glad to see you had much better weather here. A lovely view down the canal towards the church. The facades on both sides help to create great perspective here and their warm colours contrast nicely with the blue water.
