Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
I found it incredibly difficult to decide which photograph to use as my main post, which all relate to St. Francis of Assisi in Sorrento. So I am going to post all three!
I very rarely post photographs of church interiors, so that one won but, I'm sure other members may prefer the workshops.
This is the interior of the church of St. Francis. The original church probably goes back to 14th century, as it is proved by the wonderful St Francis Cloister, next to it, which is still kept almost unimpaired in its 14th-century style. (I will show this asa workshop)
The Church of San Francesco today is relatively different, because it has been subjected to numerous renovation and reconstruction interventions over the years.
The cloisters are really beautiful, full of historic atmosphere (wonderful for photographs) and have helped to make the church a favourite venue for weddings. We saw three, one every day that we were there!
Outside the church is a statue of St. Francis, which will be my second workshop offering!
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
Used well the mild/low light indoor's the church.
presence of the two ladies enliven the scene and made some contrast to the heavy wooden benches and the typical decorations there.

Hello Bev,
The light is so bright that I first thought you had used a flash, but I guess you didn't. But the lady facing us is surprisingly well exposed for being inside an old church. The light is also good enough to let us see the paintings and decoration very clearly and sharply. The architectural frames fit well inside the photo's frame. One WS is amusing, the other one nice.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,in fact, the photos of the churches are always beautiful, but they never give the actual idea of the beauty that is experienced by observing them live. The main photo has some flaws but shows the magnificent details correctly. Interesting the 2 WS, the statue is rather disturbing but the couple who mind their business gives a touch of humor..haha. Have a nice evening and hanks,Luciano

Hello Bev
Almost every church and cathedral I visited in Italy had a magnificent interior and this is no exception. A few times the exterior was astonishing but the interior was rather plain. Additionally some of these churches have crypts and lower basements which offer fascinating time capsules into earlier phases of the site. Worth looking for and entering if you see them. The €1 entry fee is money well spent. Of course there are also churches that ban all photography on all levels of the site. Adequate sharpness and good lighting and colour. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
The church interior looks pretty dark, but you handled the lighting very well and made the golden details stand out particularly well. Nice symmetry and good narrow composition.

Hi Bev
Indeed, difficult to decide, three very different photos but equally interesting. The church interior is always challenging to photograph because of the lighting, and you managed exposure really well here. Great timing for the two lady visitors!
Thanks for bringing back memories of my trip to Italy in 1990! :-)
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Beverley,
Not an easy light to deal with but you let us well enjoy the view of the rich interior of the beautiful church in Sorrento.
I also like the photo of the cloisters in the WS. There it was a dull sky that didn't allow you to take a perfect photo.
Maybe I would have chosen this one as the main photo.
Best regards, Paul

I liked these three photos you posted. the main post has a nice sample of art around the main altar. the canvas in the curved ceiling and walls isn't a so usual adornment. excellent image.

Hi Bev.
Magnificent composition with a remarkable symmetry, the Main Altar of this church is stupendous, I especially like the paintings of the semi-dome and the flower arrangements.
Very good color that highlights the strength of the image.
Superb brightness and sharpness management to capture image details.
Very well done. I like.
Have a great day.
Very best regards.
Lewis.
P / D .. You asked me this question in your last comment to my photo: "Did you make a vow whilst there?" And the truth is that I don't know what you mean.
