The legend about ancient origins of the Vitkovci family and the "division of the Rose" has a lot of charm, but it is only the legend...

The first mention of the Krumlov settlement is from 1253. The owners of the estate at that time were descendents of the Vitek family who, on a rock above Vltava river, built the oldest part of the castle with a tower protecting the ford over the river, which was cut here by an important commercial route.
The first Lord of Krumlov was Vitek II, son of Vitek.

This shot was taken from picturesque outskirts of the Castle's Gardens, in the place of former Summer Riding School.

On the left You can see characteristic buildings of Hradek - the Little Castle, an early Gothic castle partially maintained under the Renaissance changes with dominating the skyline tower.
This complex was built during the reign of Vitek II.
