Photographer's Note

The Eye...

While I was taking the picture of the two boys (see previous post), I saw this boy peeking through the bamboo grass. I immediately pointed my camera to him and took this shot. He has such intense look punctuating his goden brown skin. The water in his face came from the nearby canal where the boys were swimming.

Hi Manny - a beautiful and intense photo, well framed. The grass makes a fine and well-contrasting framing element, and the shine emerging from the eye is very well rendered. From a pure TE perspective, the shot looks perhaps a bit too "photo-modelish" for my taste if you understand what I mean, but it is certainly an excellent and extremely well-carried out work.

Well, its gorgeous work. The light and dark shading contrast just perfectly. You could use this for the cover of Lord of the Flies, really. My favorite part is that perfect reflection in his dark eyes of the people around. Excellent work- as always :)

Excellent shot Manuel, if I took a shot like this, some people might said, "hey, clone out the grass on his face" or something similar like this, but not yours... This is a WOW factor... just looking at this shot, looking at his sparkling eyes... it is a beautiful shot. Those details just superb.

Very great capture, I like the boy expression and the way you captured him, the 'grass' (I guess is not grass, but my English is not so good and I don't know the exactly word for the green plant) in front of him face, the water at him face and him misterious look. Really great job! (actually the great work justifies the current 105 'favorites').

This photo is probably the all-time favorite on Trekarth. It’s easy to understand why, with this fabulous authentical expression of the boy and the bokeh behind. The focus is directly on the eyes, and that’s where we keep our attention, while the nose is blurred. Light is very impressive and light up the water drops. AM

I like how you got his face partially covered by leaves. It gives him a mysterious vibe and overall makes the picture more interesting than just a straight portrait, I think. The blur behind also provides a sharp contrast and makes it seem like the boy is in a world of his own. And the contrast of the colors really helps bring both the green of the leaves and the brown of his skin out nicely. Also, the reflection in his eye adds to the whole overall mysterious effect. I'm jealous:)

Amazing capture, one of the most beautiful portraits I have seen. Being in the rght place at the right time really does pay off at times, and this is the proof. The boy look almost animalistic, the combination of his sideways glance and the greenery I guess.
