A Sunflower about to bloom on the outskirts of Gulbarga in North Karnataka. Large tracts of land in North Karnataka are under Sunflower cultivation, one of the fastest growing cash-crops in India used for edible oil. Sunflower is grown in about 1 million hectare covering both the irrigated and rain-fed areas in the state. With timely rainfall, the farmers, who had opted for sunflower cultivation, are getting expected yields.
