Photographer's Note

A break from Africa, coming back to important matters. I have noticed that many of my photographer friends in TE who have yet visited Burma are getting back and uploading from their Burmese image stock, I will do so...

... a good thing, let's have a Burma day in TrekEarth.

100.000 people marching in Yangon, led by monks.. hopefully the stupid military junta has not retaliated back like in 1988 when on aug 8th (8/8/88 see how numbers have their importance in Burma) they shot hundreds of civilians who rioted against the dictatorial Ne Win regime.

On 9/9/99, the same stupid generals locked the country as they believed students would riot again for a question of numerology... with the same astrology logics they moved the capital to a locked up city in the midst of the country, where no one except the govt families can go.

Maybe it will happen this year but it's still a long way to freedom... It is said that traditional ally China cannot back anymore the burmese generals due to Olympic games next year.
I'm thinking right now about a burmese friend, I hope it's going to be ok.

The monks in the picture are not marching against anything, it's a peaceful lineup of novices waiting for their morning meal in Amarapura monastery.
