Not one of the most visited regions of Italy, it holds a treasure of beautiful beaches, old towns frozen in time, incredible mountains and a huge variety of wildlife (it is also home to the oldest national park in Italy, dating back to 1921).

A devastating earthquake in april 2009 seriously damaged the city of L'Aquila and destroyed entire towns. Over 300 people died, over 60 thousand lost their homes.
