...And a church again! :) Those who are familiar with my gallery knows what's what! :)
Here is a best example of Russian medieval style of architecture, built in year 1158 by Great Prince of Vladimir Andrew the Pious. It's a monument to his son Isyaslav, fallen in battle with Bulgars.
White-stone walls are covered with reliefs of magic creatures and warriors.
In the end of XVIII century Archbishop of Vladimir wanted to destroy the church, he wanted to build something Baroc from the stone of its walls.
Worker who climbed the church to take out the cross get down complaining that small piece of gold jutted out of the cross and he become blind on one eye; this was taken as a sign of Mother Mary's anger at the idea of destroying the church, and it was left standing. After that the worker become healthy again...
Many, many thanks to this smart unknown peasant-worker, by his trick (I think it was a trick) we are able to see this ancient thing now.
This simple soul saw something that Archbishop saw not: the beauty. Beauty that outstood the centuries.
