Workshop Note
I'm using TheGimp:
1. Automatic levels. This made the dark sky really black.
2. Contrast mask: a)Duplicate the layer. b) Create a layer mask on the top layer. Copy and paste the image there. At this point you can manage the tones you like. The top layer will be transparent in darker areas, showing the bottom one, and visible in the clearer ones. You can darken or lighten the two layers the way you like. Normally, you would clear the bottom layer, to clear the darker parts, or, as I've done here, darken the top layer, to dark the lighter parts.
3. Sharpen a little.
Hope you like it.
