After spending a few "hot hours" in the city... A little refreshing break on the way home. And the view was lovely!
More about this region: "Groot-Ammers forms part of the municipality of Liesveld, which also includes Langerak, Nieuwpoort and Streefkerk. The name Groot-Ammers is derived from Ammers, meaning water. In the past Ammers was a marsh river. Groot [Large] was added to distinguish it from Klein [Small] Ammers (Ammerstol), situated on the other side of the river Lek. Along the Ammerse Boezem [polder outlet] there are four monumental windmills. In the village itself you can also see small dike houses and an old cheese warehouse. Groot-Ammers is on the signposted Ooievaarsroute [Stork route], a cycle route through the eastern part of the Alblasserwaard and along the river Lek. Groot-Ammers is especially well-known for the Streekcentrum Ooievaarsdorp [Regional centre stork village] Het Liesvelt, where some of the birds fly around freely, hatch and rear their young. From this point walkers can follow the Ooievaarspad. The Gelkenes Molen is a Smock windmill"
